The Little Things

Realizing the things,
that mean so much..
Like a thought that triggers a smile,
on your face, or a simple loving touch..

The smell of fragrant flowers,
or the smell of mud on a rainy day..
The kind words of encouragement,
that are spoken your way..

The sounds of children laughing,
as they play down the hall..
The feeling of accomplishment,
no matter how big or small..

The thought of loved ones,
who have come and gone..
Their pictures and the memories,
that will forever live on..

If we could take time out
and focus less, on our financial state..
We would realize it's the little things,
that really make life so great..

Love of My Life - Part 4

Gladiator! Yes, this is by far my favourite movie and I love it. It may not seem apt to the "Love of My Life" series, but well, who cares!

I love the character of Maximus - the general who became a slave, the slave who became a gladiator, the gladiator who defied the emperor - striking story ofcourse! Russel Crowe has performed brilliantly throughout the movie. His performance in the beginning during the battle, when he escapes death to go home, the way he faces the emperor - its all fantastic!

All the characters have delivered the dialogues and acted beautifully! The background sound is automatically played in my head whenever I face a situation!

The best scene of the movie, according to me, is when the Emperor asks Maximus to remove the helmet and reveal himself. The dialogue of the century is delivered then:

"My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next."

The look on his face, and the voice is just amazing!
There are some more dialogues which just take my breath everytime I hear them:

  • "Three weeks from now I will be harvesting my crops, imagine where you will be...and it will be so. Hold the line, stay with me! If you find yourself alone, lying in green fields with the sun on your face, do not be troubled...for you are in Elysium! And you’re already dead! What we do in life...echoes in eternity..."
  • I knew a man who once said, "Death smiles at us all. All a man can do is smile back."
  • Life is a gift from our fathers to us. Who are you to give it up for lack of lifting a spoon?
  • "In this life, we all die. All we can choose is how we die. And how we are remembered. Be remembered proudly."
  • I don't pretend to be a man of the people. But I do try to be a man for the people.

Yes, there are some other great movies too.. Kabhi Kabhi for instance in which Amitabh speaks brilliantly! But, Gladiator take my heart! Hats off to this movie!
